NaNoWriMo: Day One

by Chris Maddera on November 1, 2005

Well, I spent a lot of tonight thinking about where I should start, and I think I’ve settled on something.

The biggest problem I have to overcome with this project is that I tend to edit as I go, and it’s really dragging down the pace at which I can produce anything “usable”. I have to get past this tendency to stop, go back, reword, delete, and rewrite.

If I don’t stop this, I’ll never get close to the 50,000 word count.

Chris, someone on the Nanowrimo boards suggested turning your typing in the paragraphs white after you get done writing them. So you write a paragraph, turn it white, and just keep going. That way you can’t look up the page and make any changes.

Or, as _Bird by Bird_ encourages, let yourself write shit.
