Economic Class Espionage

by Chris Maddera on May 9, 2007

I heard the term “cloak and dagger” this morning on NPR, and it occurred to me that spies are usually intellent people who are well-paid by whoever they are spying for, not necessarily because they are getting any great important information for anyone, but because you have to have a good amount of money to credibly engage in any “cloak and dagger” activity.

You never hear “cloak and dagger” referenced in stories about scheming trailer park owners.

If you’re middle-class you might be able to use the term, “cape and knife”. Otherwise, I think you’re stuck with phrases like “paper towel and pointy stick” or “dish rag and soup spoon”.
