I’ve been missing the scooter something fierce. It’s still odd not seeing it parked next to Cindy’s in the garage.
I’ve been thinking about how and when I can replace it, and what kind and color I would get when I do. The Vespa was awesome, but pricey…and pricey to fix, too, apparently (or obviously). Sometimes, I think getting a orange Buddy would make a nice replacement for the orange Vespa, but I don’t think I could ever replace that first scooter. It’s better to get something different, and just accept that difference.
So, here are some of the scooters I’ve been considering and the inspirations for these choices.
First up, the Buddies:
And now the Vespa:
I think any of these ideas would satisfy my inner dork/geek. What do you think?

you had to bring Ghostbusters into it! I was totally sold on the green buddy. However now that I have seen the red and white loveliness….AH! I want my scooter too. I ain’t fraid of no ghost!
I love the idea of riding around on a little scooter that claims to be “The Doom-Bringer”.
a) what’s wrong with the Vespa?
b) How many cc’s are you looking for?
I had an accident on the Vespa a few months ago, and although the damage didn’t look bad, the insurance company totaled it. The repairs were going to cost $2500, and they were going to pay the finance company, rather than the dealership, so there was the possibility of me having to pay for repairs out of my own pocket, and I didn’t feel like messing with it all at the time, so I just sold it to the insurance company.
The regular Buddies, which is the more likely choice right now, are 125cc’s and that’s the minimum I’d like. Ideally, I would like 150cc’s. Genuine now makes a scooter called the Blur, which tempts me and it’s 220 cc’s.
Those are all so dang cool that my opinion is useless.
I want one, too. I want them all.
I’m just astonished that the damage amounted to that much. It looked like there were just a few scrapes on the paneling. What happened to it?
We didn’t think the damage looked severe either. The front brake lever was bent, dents and scratches on the body and the seat, the right turn signal was trashed, and the mirrors busted. Cindy rode it home after the wreck, but the guy at the Vespa place said the biggest issue is making sure the alignment is good, and I’m guessing they were going to have to break it down, and basically re-assemble it. I’m sure most of that cost was labor.
The dollar amount on selling it to the insurance company was about $700 more than they were willing to give me if I chose to have it fixed, so I just sold it to them, and paid off the finance company.
